School Holiday Update:Severe winter conditions across several parts of India have forced authorities to extend school holidays from February 7 to February 14, 2026. Dense fog, freezing winds, and sharply falling temperatures have made daily life difficult, especially during early morning hours. For parents, sending children to school in such harsh weather had become a major concern. Keeping student safety in mind, education departments in many states decided to extend winter holidays, offering much-needed relief to families.

Cold Weather and Fog Disrupt Daily Routine

In many northern and central regions, winter has reached its peak. Thick fog covers roads in the morning, reducing visibility to dangerous levels. In some areas, even nearby vehicles are hard to see, increasing the risk of accidents. School buses and children walking to school are especially vulnerable in these conditions. The biting cold makes it uncomfortable and unsafe for young students to travel early in the day.

Weather departments have also issued cold wave warnings in multiple regions, indicating that temperatures may remain low for several more days. Morning temperatures often drop to levels that coincide with school hours, making it difficult for children to cope. Considering these risks, authorities decided it was safer to keep schools closed temporarily.

Health Concerns for Young Children

Young children are more sensitive to extreme cold compared to adults. Their immune systems are still developing, making them prone to colds, coughs, fever, and throat infections. Children with asthma or breathing issues face even greater problems during cold and foggy weather. Waking up early, getting ready in the cold, and traveling through fog can seriously affect their health.

Over the past few days, many parents had requested an extension of school holidays. Their concerns were based on genuine health risks rather than convenience. Education departments responded by prioritizing children’s well-being, especially for nursery, primary, and middle school students. The belief is clear that education is important, but health and safety come first.

Education Department Monitoring the Situation

Education authorities and district administrations are closely monitoring weather updates. Regular meetings are being held to assess conditions and decide further action if needed. If the cold wave continues, holidays may be extended further in some districts. However, decisions are being taken locally, as weather conditions vary from place to place.

This means that school closure dates may differ between states and even districts. In some areas, all schools are closed, while in others only younger classes have been given holidays. In certain regions, school timings have been adjusted instead of complete closures. Parents are advised to rely only on official school notices or district administration updates rather than social media rumors.
