The Maharashtra Government’s Ladki Bahin Yojana 2026 continues to provide crucial financial support to women across the state. Designed to help women manage rising household expenses, children’s education, and healthcare needs, this scheme transfers ₹1,500 every month directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer system. This approach ensures transparency and eliminates the need for middlemen. Since its launch in 2024, the scheme has aimed not only to provide monetary help but also to empower women with independence and self-respect. With the 17th installment being released in February 2026, eligible women are receiving regular assistance that provides both financial support and a sense of security.

Overview and Objectives of the Scheme

The Ladki Bahin Yojana is a significant social welfare initiative by the Maharashtra Government. It targets women aged 21 to 65 years from economically weaker families, offering consistent financial aid. Over a year, the monthly assistance of ₹1,500 accumulates to ₹18,000, which substantially helps families with daily expenses, school fees, and minor healthcare costs. The scheme encourages women to contribute to household finances, strengthening their decision-making role and building their confidence. The government aims to cover all eligible women in the state by 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

To benefit from this scheme, women must be permanent residents of Maharashtra aged between 21 and 65. Families should have an annual income of less than ₹2.5 lakh, with no members being income taxpayers or government employees. Ownership of four-wheeled vehicles, except tractors, disqualifies a family. The scheme includes married, widowed, divorced, and abandoned women, providing broad coverage. Applicants must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account and an active DBT facility to receive the payment. In families with multiple unmarried women, usually only one is selected. Accuracy of information and valid documents is crucial, as providing false details can lead to disqualification.

Required Documents and Application Process

Applicants need an Aadhaar card and proof of residence, such as a ration card, voter ID, birth certificate, or school leaving certificate. A bank passbook linked to Aadhaar and a recent passport-sized photo are mandatory. Income proof may be required in certain cases. The application can be submitted online through the Maharashtra Government DBT portal or offline at Anganwadi centers, Gram Panchayats, or local government offices, where staff assist with form submission. Approved applicants start receiving monthly installments directly in their bank accounts.

17th Installment and Key Updates

The 17th installment has started from February 2026. Funds are being deposited first into the accounts of women who have been receiving earlier installments. Applicants can check the status online or at local centers. Delays may occur if e-KYC or bank details are outdated, so maintaining updated information is essential. The government assures that all eligible women will receive their payments and any technical issues will be promptly resolved.
